with a Star Kelly Craig
In October of 2009, award-winning journalist Kelly Craig
became the first female cast member of the popular Paul and Young Ron radio show. The morning program originates out of Miami/Fort
Lauderdale (WBGG, 105.9 FM ), and is simulcast on radio stations as far south as The Keys and northward to the Space Coast.
Having been a television anchor for more than two 2 decades,
listeners of P&YR are now getting a taste of the lighter side of Kelly in her new comedic role. Says Kelly, "Being
part of a show this creative and fun feels like I'm being rewarded for all those years of covering hurricanes, floods and
the plague of locusts. Now all I have to do is throw a couple of zingers in here and there, and put up with the inevitable
gas cloud that a room full of guys will occasionally produce. Hey, that's what hazmat suits are for..."
Kelly is married to Miami businessman Bill Hoolihan. They
live in Pinecrest and are parents to Jack Ryan, 13.
She’s a South Florida icon and we’re honored
that she stopped by for 7 questions.
What do you like best about Miami?
Miami is home to the best radio team in the country: The
Paul and Young Ron Show, of course! No matter what happens here, be sure that we'll have something to say about it,
and that Ron will have something to drink about...
What do you like least about Miami?
Getting stuck in rush hour gridlock on I-95 is no day at the
beach, so I'm going to have to be cliche and say the traffic. Oh well, that's what middle fingers are for. It's
amazing how crazy people get on our roads here.
Favorite movie?
There's no way I could narrow it down to one favorite film, so
tying for my favorites are "Gone with the Wind", Stage Door", and "All about Eve". I also love
anything by local director Billy Corben because he always gets me in for free.
Favorite Book?
I love the classics, but to be completely honest my all time fave
is "My Horizontal Life" by Chelsea Handler. It laugh out loud funny, and trust me, when I laugh out loud,
you'll need ear plugs.
Favorite Place?
My favorite hangout is The Improv (Coconut Grove or Hollywood)
watching great comics do their thing. My ultimate favorite is Craig Shoemaker. I also love me some David Allen
Grier, Ralphie May, Susie Essman, Adam Ferrara, Ricky Cruz, and my buddy Flip Shultz.
What would you like to tell your Miami fans?
I love the people in Miami who have supported me on the tube all
of these years, and now on the radio. I somehow manage to see the "funny" in just about everything, and I
find that birds of a warped feather flock together. When I meet folks who tell me they're fans, we often become friends.
Then they get posessive, then come the late-night phone calls, and ultimately restraining orders are filed. Ah, the
disfunction! Love it!
