Fishing Report By Captain Hector Mesa

Happy New Year!!!

Well, another fishing year
has passed us by and it's time to let bygones be bygones. Start up fresh to set new goals and catch that big one that got
away. So let me take this moment and wish everyone a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. I know the common New Year's Resolutions
are to lose weight, get a better job, or buy a new car. Maybe, just maybe to us anglers, we would have
a different New Year's Resolution in mind like; to catch that bigger Dolphin, we always wanted to catch, catch and release
more Sailfish this year, catch a bigger King Mackerel than the one your buddy caught last year, or maybe
something as simple as spending more quality fishing time with someone special in your life. So whatever
it is, make sure you enjoy doing it and it makes you happy without causing any harm to anyone else.
It’s
been windy weather and rough seas lately but despite these conditions, the fishing offshore has been very good.

Offshore
has been a mixed bag of Dolphin (mahi-mahi), Sailfish, Small Blackfin Tuna, Bonito, and King Mackerel. Inshore and in shallower
water has been great with Spanish Mackerel, Cero Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, smaller kings, Jack Crevalle, and big Blue Runners
that offer a great fight with light tackle. This time of the season may be a little tough to get out at times, but will be
very rewarding. Using live pilchards is my bait of preference. Using the smaller 2 to 3 inch ones for inshore or shallow water
and bigger ones for offshore species. So, get out there, catch'm up and have some fun.
Take a kid fishing, let’s pass it on.
